Summary/Abstract: School social work is a growing specialty worldwide and this tendency can be noticed in Europe, too. At this moment, all over the world, there are currently school social workers professionals in about 50 countries, all being part of International Network for School Social Work. Ideally, a multi-disciplinary team should include a school social worker which ensures a proper educational environment by assisting those individuals who are marginalized by poverty, disability and any other personal or social problems. The article describes several systems of school social work practice models and professional standards in some European countries, by highlighting the key moments in the emergence and the growth of this social work specialty. All these key moments are connected to the approaches according to which schools must include all children, whatever the abilities or disabilities, diverse backgrounds or wide-ranging problems presented are. At some point, all the educational systems presented in this paper understood that schools are charged with preparing youth for life in an increasingly complex and changing world and is highly necessary to approach a more flexible model of education to do this.
