Summary/Abstract: The study highlights the main moments attesting the Romanians’ struggle for national emancipation in the northwest of the country, Satu Mare and surroundings, by mentioning those historical documents that attest to this struggle, starting with the revolutionary year 1848, continuing with the efforts to establish in 1859 the first Romanian language school in the city and then the Astra Division, the Memorandum movement on the Satu Mare fields, the protest against adherence to the Episcopate of Hajdúdorog, the participation of the Romanian delegates on 1 December 1918 in Alba Iulia and the bloody events that followed in the coming months in this corner of the country.
