Summary/Abstract: Our study is dedicated to the personality of Korponay Kornél (1872-1949), best known as one of the most skilled orchardists in the surroundings of the town of Baia Mare. Based on the school yearbooks, we reconstructed several years of his school formation, also specifying the names of colleagues who would become personalities of the history of these places. His personality distinguished by his great love for books and fruit growing. We have highlighted in the study the ”Korponay heritage” found in the collections of the Satu Mare County Library. The tree of knowledge - viewed from the two perspectives of Korponay Kornél’s life, represented for him the guiding light. The private library of the collector Korponay Kornél mirrors the different character of the reading preferences of their possessor, being held in high esteem in his library, volumes from various fields of activity, from universal history and literature, classical but also contemporary, to the Catholic religion, but also Protestant; it also contains volumes published in the major European typographic centres: Amsterdam, Berlin, Buda, Cracovia, Gratz, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Levoča, Leyda, London, Maastricht, Salzburg, Stuttgart, Viena, Paris, Zurich etc, over several centuries (the extreme chronological limits being 1637–1916).
