Summary/Abstract: The Synagogue of Sofia owns a valuable collection of ritual objects (metal plastics, embroideries, manuscripts and books) having been preserved since the period of the Late Balkan Middle Age and the Revival. This paper considers the type and characteristic features of the artefacts from the Synagogue collection, worked out of metals and embroidery textiles, originating from Sofia and other settlements in Bulgaria. The author particularly notices their shapes, technique, function, destination and decoration (composition, ornamental patterns, semantics part of a artisan's manufacture in Bulgarian lands, survived through the centuries by virtue of the endeavours of generations of craftsmen -Jews, Christians and Muslims. It represents the specific features of Jewish religion and applied-art traditions as well as their resemblance with the production at the same time created and desalinated to maintain common cult or everyday-life necessities of Bulgarians or nations in Bulgarian lands. This range of problems, concerning the study of an almost unknown in our scientific literature page of the applied-art heritage has been set in the limelight of the searcher's interest, based on particular materials from the collections of Sofia Synagogue.
