Summary/Abstract: This article explores current issues of minority education inChina, especially in the context of religion and languageeducation. In the first part of the article, the author describes(1) cultural and political framework of Chinese educationin general and (2) current educational conditions, also discussingdifferences in educational attainment for minoritygroups in China. The second part of the article presents thesituation of minority religions, which is not really recognisedin state schooling in China. The author shows educationalexamples from the Tibet region and from Muslimeducation. The third part of the article explores another majorchallenge related to ethnic minority schooling, which islanguage diversity. In the final part of the paper, the authortries to comment on Chinese minority education dilemmasand concludes with some social recommendations.
