Summary/Abstract: The acquisition of specific abilities and skills that enable pupils and students with autism spectrum disorders to fulfill adequately the competencies needed to master the various levels of the school system are often subject to specific difficulties, particularly in the areas of social interaction(including the communication component) and imagination. Not only these difficulties lead teachers, and other actors involved in the education of pupils and students, to find suitable methods and approaches in education. The theoretical article aims to describe and declare partially the suitability of the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) approach for pupils and students with autism spectrum disorders. The article defines the basic principles of the approach including an outline of its content at the theoretical level and a description of the possibilities and limits of implementation into the education system in the Czech Republic.
