Summary/Abstract: The authors of the article consider the intonation system of the Ukrainian language from the position of linguodidactics, and define problems to be solved by teachers when introducing new intonation patterns of statements to foreign students. The authors also analyze existing programs, text and handbooks in Ukrainian intended for non-native speakers in terms of intonation issues. As part of the study the authors define the functions of intonation while speaking, and intonation components, describe the intonation transcription which is clear and functional for a foreign audience, and minimize intonation constructions necessary to learn at a certain stage of learning Ukrainian. The authors opine that the skill of proper intoning of statements is an obligatory condition, basis, means and way of speaking activity in the Ukrainian language.
