The practices used after the child’s birth in Marginimea Sibiului

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the main beliefe and rituals concerning pregnancy with numerous tabus that regard the pregnant woman’s health and which she had to follow. The practices used a after the child’s birth (the cutting of navel, the first bath and the christening) are also shown. The example are picked up from Mărginimea Sibiului’s main localities: Sălişte, Orlat, Răşinari and Tilişca. As bibliography the author used the books written by S. Fl. Marian (Birth at the Romanians, 1892), Victor Păcală (The Monograph of the Răşinari Village, 1915), Mihai Pop (Romanian Traditional Customs, 1976), and her personal research in these villages in 1980-1995.
