Summary/Abstract: For a part of the European ex-communist countries, the political, economical and social similar phenomenon of drug use started to become a problem only after the socio-political changes of the 90s, the „open borders” contributing significantly in this. Romania, firstly a transit country for drugs has become a country of consumers in short time. The impact was very high among young people, who out of curiosity, eccentricity or solidarity towards the group broke into drugs, and since 1995 these young people have begun knocking on the doors of psychiatric hospitals being the first addicted patients seeking treatment. The Romanian society has been taken by surprise by this scourge of drugs and, with all efforts, some problems persist.
