Summary/Abstract: All the spiritual traditions around the world advance in the paths that lead to salvation of humanity and have their specific teachings by which they defend their beliefs and convictions. Gnosis, as well, as one of the world’s oldest traditions, has been constantly focusing its attention towards human’s salvation, deliverance and serenity, and has been passing its specific teachings, letter by letter, from one generation to another to human posterities. In addition, every religious tradition presents authentic individual gnostic experiences in the form of literature and terminology that is characteristic of its own cultural tradition. Although the philosophy of religion strives to understand nature and Divine essence, it ignores these cultural differences. The philosophy of gnosis, on the other hand, goes one step further and strives to reach and understand the nature of human experiences of the Divine by understanding the mutual central relation that exists between cultural traditions. Gnosis has always been an attractive topic for philosophers and fertile ground for philosophical research. In the wake of that, philosophy of gnosis/Irfan was based on the fact that immediate experiential philosophical studies of the Divine are possible and attainable for every individual. Philosophy of gnosis settles within itself questions such as the essence of gnosis and gnostic experiences, aspects and degrees of gnostic experiences, the relation of gnostic experience to religious experience, gnostic epistemology, the language of gnosis and a vast number of other philosophical research studies which are based on gnostic experiences. This paper attempts to briefly yet comprehensively address the aforementioned issues by using relevant philosophical-gnostic sources so that researchers who are interested in philosophy, gnosis and the philosophy of gnosis could use this paper as a basis for further creative and innovative research in this field.
