Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the research of the theatre as an institution that provides opportunities for the theoretical study of a society and its critique through possible interpretations of Shakespeare's plays. When it comes to the theatre in the Renaissance and its role in the society, there are also two contrasting views, one of which sees the theatre as a means of keeping the subjects in subjection, while the other considers it to be demystifying and undermining the ruling order. Shakespeare was very interested in problems related to the political power and the power of the institutions of government, its pressures and promises, and he mercilessly condemns corruption and abuse of power whenever there is a chance for it. Through his plays, he shows that politics should be overcome by morality or ethics.
