A Comparison of the Contents of the Two Translations of the Symeonic Florilegium on the Basis of the Greek Original Texts

Summary/Abstract: The Greek florilegium that was first translated for Tsar Symeon was retranslated in the fourteenth or early fifteenth century. For the first time their contents are compared using the Greek originals for comparative purposes. The first translation was either made on the basis of a defective Greek codex or else all known Slav MSS go back to the same codex in which some folia were missing and others were in muddled order. The contents of the second translation were abridged by the deliberate omission of some of the theological entries. No known Greek codex contains this abridgment but whether the translator made it or used a Greek manuscript with it is uncertain.
