Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses an original system of historical conceptions in the works of Nobel laureate in literature Derek Walcott. This system includes the history of the Antilles into the history of the world. The reception of ancient heritage as a foundation of European civilization, realized in the multi-ethnic Caribbean societies of the post-colonial era, acts as one of the mechanisms of such inclusion. This reception was in a certain way represented by the epic poem “Omeros”, which uses some of the motifs and characters of Homer’s epos in other socio-cultural conditions for the creation of local patriotism.
