International Negotiation of German Reunification, 1989–1990

Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the international aspects of the German reunification back in 1989–1990. A brief historical overview of the developments in East and Central Europe (ephazasing the processes in GDR) seeks to provide better understanding of the international context against which Germany reunified after nearly 45 years. The policy of the USA, the United Kingdom, France and USSR in regard to the fall of the Berlin wall and the German question is taken into account. Stress is placed on the development of the relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Soviet Union as the key factor in negotiating the unification of the two German states.
