Summary/Abstract: The computer numerical control (CNC) machining market has increased exponentially during the last decades and the prognosis is still among the most optimistic in the industry. The high demand for software-assisted manufacturing has led to an explosion in the number of companies that specialize in the manufacturing, sale and service of numeric control machines. This creates tremendous job opportunities, either for fresh graduates who are looking for a career in the field or for more experienced professionals who would like to take their position to the next level. However, the prerequisite for having access to all these benefits is a solid, if not proficient use of English. The goal of this article is, therefore, to cast some light on the basic terminology of CNC machining and on some challenges that are inherent in a domain that covers so many countries and cultures.
