Summary/Abstract: This paper presents some aspects regarding intercultural communication, with a main focus on the European area. The first part deals with the communication process and the importance of a thorough knowledge of the intercultural environment. The second part of the paper is an analysis of the differences between the professional discourse and the institutional discourse, as well as of some documents elaborated by the European institutions and bodies, which are available to the public worldwide, from the point of view of linguistic polyphony and strategic ambiguity.
