Research on Lithuanian Economic Convergence Seeking Full Membership in the Economic and Monetary Union

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the analysis of Lithuania economic convergence in the context of its integration in the EMUS, the concept of convergence by defining its cognition and evaluation in terms of macro-economic theory and Maastricht Treaty. The paper is based on the analysis of Lithuanian economic convergence using statistical methods and referring to the GDP parameters, economic approach to EMUS countries. The execution and longevity of the convergence indicators have been analyzed uncovering their development in the period of 1999–2006, which had been influenced by the essential factors and the future tendencies and possible ways of resolving problematic aspects. It was proved that Lithuanian convergence with EMUS full rights countries in accordance with the GDP parameters is enacted and stable, meets all the criteria of convergence and having the level of unemployment at least by 1% point higher Lithuania’s convergence was evaluated in May, 2006), the criteria of inflation without changes and other conditions will not become an obstacle for the introduction of the Euro on 1 January, 2007.
