Summary/Abstract: Condica scriirii sufletilor şi a familiilor a stării de gios din târgul Ieşii, 1808 Julie 15 (the register of the souls and families of the commoners from the town of Iaşi, 15 July 1808) caught our attention among the censuses made in the town of Iaşi, at the beginning of the 19th century. As the title suggests, the intention of those who made the census was to find out which is the number and the structure of the families from the capital of Moldavia. The document includes data both about family members and those who lived under the same roof with them: servants, apprentices, journeymen. We use these data for an analysis of the family from a typological point of view, from the perspective of its size and the correlation between families and households in the urban Romanian society at the beginning of the 19th Century. The society had a complex structure and it included social categories differentiated by social and matrimonial status, occupation and ethnic communities. Families, of course, reflect this structure of the social reality. The travelers who stayed in Iaşi during this period corroborate through their testimonies the statistical data. The analysis of the Condica scriirii sufletilor şi a familiilor a stării de gios din târgul Ieşii, 1808 iulie 15 is of considerable usefulness because it opens the way for the reconstruction of the family in one of the largest cities in the Romanian Lands and also in Central and South-Eastern Europe.
