Summary/Abstract: In this study, we try to reconstruct the life of a woman from the Romanian Lands in the 17th century, a period characterized by a very high mortality among children and women. It is estimated that 30% of children died before the age of one, and less than half of all children reached adulthood. These situations were due to several factors, such as: natural calamities, epidemics, wars, years of famine and the level of health care.To understand the impact of this harsh reality, we will analyze the case of Princess Ana Bornemisza, the wife of Mihai I Apafi (1662-1690). The documents left by her and those relating to her illustrate, in a detailed way, the life and circumstances of a woman of that century.
