Summary/Abstract: This presentation refers to the conference Population Studies. Challenges and Prospects, organized at the Babeș-Bolyai University, Centre for Population Studies, on June 1st-2nd 2019. The conference aimed to provide a retrospective overview on population research drawing from various disciplines (history, historical demography, demography, sociology, human geography, economy, medicine, etc.), as well as an opportunity for researchers to discuss the role of population studies in informing public policies that address issues of contemporary population, such as population ageing, migration, low fertility, etc. The 21 papers that were presented during the two days of the conference, situated in the field of social history, historical or contemporary demography, unraveled a wide array of topics and historical periods and employed various methodological approaches. A special focus was awarded to migration and its consequences.
