Summary/Abstract: International intelligence liaison is an undeniable necessity in the effort against the transnational Islamic terrorism. As the threat evolved, liaison took a variety of forms, starting from the classic exchange of information and continuing with joint operations, hosting operational bases and equipment, infrastructure support and back channel diplomacy for the countries with adversarial relations. Despite its obvious advantages, liaison also entails some risks and limitations for the parties involved. Nonetheless, despite these obstacles liaison will continue to play a central role in the struggle against Islamic terrorist organizations with a global reach. However, liaison must not replace the capacity for unilateral, direct action.
