Summary/Abstract: Safta Brancoveanu’s Will, written in 1838, with the occasion of the opening of the Brancovenesc Hospital from Bucharest, represents the first Interior order document of a Romanian Hospital ever known in specialized literature. In this will, the niece of ruler Constantin Brancoveanu builds this Brancovenesc Hospital in 1838, equipped with 60 beds and endows it with 4 more estates and buildings so that, from the fortune collected from these features, this hospital can be maintained, in the memory of ruler Grigore Basarab Brancoveanu, deceased and master of these fortunes. The will is dated August 28, 1845, it is written on parchment, signed by Safta Brancoveanu, originally born Balasa, with two seals, containing the duties of the Trustees (Hospital’s management team and “Domnita Balasa” Church), the Stewards, the Doctors, the Surgeons, the Iposurgeons, the Secretary, the Laundry Caregivers and Maids, the Assistants of the patients and of the patients too. It is notable that Dr. Dimitrie Sachelarie is the first Romanian doctor in our history, whose contract was dated October 1838.
