The Wedding Ritual in the Village of Tserovo, Blagoevgrad Region

Summary/Abstract: The text presents wedding and wedding tradition in the village of Tserovo, Blagoevgrad region, whose inhabitants are Bulgarian Muslims. Reconstructing the wedding ritual – with information from the practices from the near past – has been done through interviews and the present day state of wedding has been represented by observations on the ritual and its functioning. nowadays. The text traces all activities paying special attention to ritual music, attending the important ritual moments. The conclusions involve diachronic section of the wedding and the preserved and dropped out elements of the custom. An attempt has been made to compare the wedding of the Bulgarian Muslims and the one of the Bulgarian Christians in one municipality – the Blagoevrad region – aiming to clarify the connections and their mutual influence.
