Summary/Abstract: Siewior reads the hybridised formula of Mariusz Szczygieł’s writing as an intimate reportage. Focusing Szczygieł’s latest literary projects (Kaprysik [A Caprice], Projekt: prawda [The Truth Project] and Nie ma [Not There]), Siewior explores the meaning of ordinariness and everyday life as the raw material for reportage, going on to define reportage as a medium for the work of mourning and taming one’s own fear of death. In this approach, Szczygieł’s phenomenology and “reporter’s impressionology” occupy an important place. The latter can be understood as a model of perceiving reality and as a narrative modus. The theoretical context for this study is based on the work of Kathleen Stewart (ordinary affect and precarious forms), Laureen Berlant (collective intimacy) as well as Jolanta Brach-Czaina (theory of pottering).
