Summary/Abstract: Abstract. At a time of unquestionable congruence between democracy and decentralisation of the European type, is there a growing recognition of the autonomist political stance, both at the regional and at the wider national level of politics and culture? Or is it, rather, that again “anti-state, separatist” qualities are being att ributed to autonomism? What are the perspectives for Vojvodina’s autonomy, after in July 2012 the Constitutional Court of Serbia declared 22 competences of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (henceforth: APV) to be unconstitutional? This article will address these crucial introductory questions in the following segments: 1) What is Vojvodina? What is autonomism?; 2) The origins of autonomism in Vojvodina; 3) Democratic transition after 2000 and the positions of the parties and citizens on the autonomy of Vojvodina; and 4) The constitution and the prospects for a restoration of Vojvodina’s autonomy.
