Spór o Europę. Państwa narodowe czy państwo europejskie?
Dispute about Europe. National or European state?

Summary/Abstract: Regarding common belief that Europe is facing a choice between national state and an integration towards European state, the paper tries to show background and consequences of applying the strategy of deeper integration. The basis for presented analysis is adopting an Norbert Elias’ assumption about the character of social reality as a reality comprised of individual and social aspects at the same time. Thanks to this assumption it was possible to present differences between social reality in the United States of America and Europe. Those differences concern distinction between civic identity and ethnic/national identity, that causes elementary difficulty for achieving identity basis for integration process in Europe.
