Summary/Abstract: The substantive right of the faithful in Church to organize into associations also applies to clergy. The international association for diocesan priests is the Apostolic Union of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, founded by Viktor Labeurier in 1862, which was canonically approved and established in 1880 In Poland, this association appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, and in the Diocese of Częstochowa it was founded in 1929. Until 1949, it operated as an association with a legal basis in Polish and Church law. Due to the Decree of 5 August 1949 amending certain provisions of the law on associations, the Apostolic Union became an exclusively canonical institution. The history of this association in Poland and many of its dioceses has not been synthesised. The aim of the article is therefore to present this institution and its archival activities on the example of the Diocese of Czestochowa and the characteristics of the file documentation: the book of members and the book of candidates, declarations of membership, promises of stability and the so-called schedula sheets. Apart from the deliberations of the researchers, we also find the characteristics of the documentation produced, collected and archived by its basic structures – diocesan Apostolic Unions – which can be a rich source of information for many scientific disciplines.
