Negrilești Archaeological Site. The First Discoveries from the Year 1981

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to discuss the preventive archaeological investigations, carried in the year 1981, by the archaeologist Mircea Nicu, from the Mixed Museum of Tecuci.The archaeological site of Negrilești is one of the most important of Galați county. It stretches over a surface of about 12 ha, and it was included in the List of Historical Monuments in the year 2004, at the position 57, code Gl-I-s-B-02988. It is situated in the schoolyard of the village and also within some privately owned areas.In 1981, the erosion of the left bank of Bârlad river revealed, in the yard of a private house, several clay items, ashes and several clusters of bones and pottery. All these were collected by two villagers, Toader Bolohan and Ghiță Chiscop, and handed over to the Museum of Tecuci.The archaeologist Nicu Mircea went to the village of Negrilești, where he carried a preventive archaeological research. He saved the vestiges revealed in the eroded bank by performing five digging units (four boxes and one section).The investigation carried in 1981 revealed some vestiges from the early Neolithic (Starčevo-Criș civilization), from the late Bronze Age (Noua civilization), from the Age of Migrations (Sântana de Mureș-Cerneachov civilization), from the early Middle Age (VIIIth-Xth centuries) and from the Modern Age. All the vestiges were scattered over a surface of about 10,000 square meters.
