Summary/Abstract: The article aims at a presentation of the cultural life of the town of Galați, between 1918 and 1948. The intellectual circles of the town started a noteworthy cultural activity, undertaking various local researches, stimulating the talents and trying to spread the local culture at a national level. They published journals (“Dunărea de Jos“,“Dunărea“,“Moldova de Jos“), founded museums (the Regional Museum “Ecaterina şi Paul Paşa“,“Casa Cuza Vodă“ Museum) and cultural associations (Galați Branch of the “Cultural League“,“Mihai Eminescu“ Popular Atheneum, “Max Nordau“ Cultural Settlement, “Alexandru Vlahuţă“ Cultural Circle), erected monuments in the public places, celebrating the memory of some local (doctor Alexandru Carnabel) or national personalities (the poet Mihai Eminescu). Also for that period, several architectural accomplishments are to be noted, such as the Cultural Palace “V.A. Urechia“).
