Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the study the author interprets the essence of literature as a communication form that creates exchange of information between people and influences the factors of communication (sender-creator, encoding, medium - book, recipient, reader - host...). While examining the concept of literature it can be conceptualized that the substantive definition of literature generally depends on the given historical and social context, and on the level of literary life and literary consciousness. Emphasis is placed on the fact that literary knowledge can be formed according to the functioning of the relationship between the author and the reader. It is precisely because hermeneutics has found (rediscovered) a unique reader in its history and updated the defining dimensions of reception aesthetics.
