Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to examine the Senate’s procedure in the appointment of the US Supreme Court justices, with special emphasis on the use of filibuster as a mechanism of blocking the presidentialnomination. The analysis seems significant in the context of the on-going debates concerning the judiciaryreforms in the European countries. The adopted hypothesis presumes that changes implemented in theSenate procedure during the last attempts to fill the vacancy after the death of one of the justices in 2016,have disturbed the established traditions and have significantly weakened and dangerously politicised theprocedure.
