Summary/Abstract: Children have the unquestionable right not to be exposed to violence and abuse. At the same time they have the right to be cared for. These rights are enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and are essential conditions for respecting the right to life and to promote dignity and integrity. On the other side, state authorities are obliged to protect children and to make sure they are properly cared for, according to their specific needs.
