Summary/Abstract: The exceptional charisma of the companions (the sahabah) is not only a case of the past generations but also a case of the modern society. In this sense, Abu Dhar Al Ghifari, whose name was mentioned on various occasions, may be considered as one of the remarkable examples. In the sources, his name was mentioned through his view on the zakat of the rich, his interpretation of the ayat al-Kanz, his dispute with Muawiyah, his summon to Medina by the Khalifa Uthman, his exile in Rebeze where eventually he passed away. It is quite significant to mention subjects like labour, private property, capital, Islamic socialism and Marxism while mentioning him and also to present him as an opponent of capitalism and as a revolutionist. To be able to grasp how his view of these particular subjects are associated with the social and ideological events of the last century, it would be sufficient to take a look at the titles of the books and articles written about him. The subject of this article is to discuss the information available in the sources whether they are enough to assert opinion in this issue. This too will be done by comparing some popular sources written in the recent years.
