Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the role of the chosen positional measures at different stages of linear ordering. The work shows the application of this positional measures, such as: position coefficient of variation, based on median absolute deviation and Weber’s median as the multidimensional generalization of median. The positional measures are used in the situation when in the diagnostic variables are asymmetric or in the diagnostic set has atypical values. The positional measures can be used at the every stages of linear ordering. Using a method based on the Weber’s median helps to eliminate the distorting effect of outliers, the set of diagnostic features was treated as a whole. The conducted empirical analysis concerned the assessment of quality of life of inhabitants in voivodeships of Poland, on the basis of the information contained in the Social Diagnosis 2011.
