Summary/Abstract: The aim of the analysis was to identify the forms and types of short supply chains, determine their environmental impact and identify the possibilities of financial support for such systems. The basic source of information was Polish and foreign literature on the subject. Analyzes show that short supply chains by reducing the number of intermediaries ensure better product quality, lower final price and a higher producer share in product sales profits. There are currently various types of short food supply chains in the form of direct sales on farms, marketplaces and online shopping. Based on previous research, it has not been clearly determined whether short supply chains are more environmentally friendly and generate less waste compared to mass food delivery systems. Further research and analyzes are recommended in this regard. The development of short supply chains requires subsidies. In Poland, the basic source of financial support for this type of activity are subsidies from the Rural Development Program for 2014–2020.
