Summary/Abstract: On the basis of statistical data on the total area and agricultural land, agricultural machinery, animal numbers and fertilizer the Polish territory was divided into 7 areas. Data were standardized and checked whether they represent a normal distribution. After examining the discriminative power of the variables, parameters of the linear discriminant function were estimated. This function allowed to divide Poland into 6 areas with different levels of development of agriculture. For each area separate classification functions were estimated. On their basis sub-regions were assigned for the respective areas. The classification was determined by variables: average total area of land and agricultural land in agricultural holding, the percentage of farms with fertilizer spreaders and the percentage of farms with at least 15 hectares.
