Summary/Abstract: Evidence exposed in the first part of the text about the fact that the common good is being rediscovered, becoming the subject of numerous discussions and polemics on various levels decided about the title, scope and nature of the article. The growing importance and exceptional topicality of the subject matter reflect the challenges not only economists face both theoretically as well as practically. They were presented in the form of five groups of key questions which also include the dilemmas associated with them. The next part of this article presents the essence of the common good and its new features associated with the potential to create valuable shared resource of knowledge and objects using digital technologies. In the context of frequent mistakes and identifying the common good with “things" or "resources", it seemed reasonable to expose what constitutes them in the practical field, namely the, decision to introduce a common social practice management resource for the common benefit, as well as three elements which make up the common good, creating an integrated, interdependent: resources, communities and a set of principles, values and norms. Then, on the background of the heritage of E. Ostrom, conditions for the effective operation of communities exploiting the common good have been formulated.
