Local development in times of crisis

Summary/Abstract: The effect of multidirectional changes in today’s economy is the uncertainty and the high dependence of the decisions made by the various actors at different spatial scales. The complexity of the development process casts a new shadow on the processes taking place in the smallest spatial scale, which is the main recipient of changes occurring on the global scale. It is necessary not only to identify new local development conditions in the global economy, but also the factors that shape the situation. Apart from the obvious such as globalization and the economic crisis, one must also specify the unique potential of spatial units, which is very often intangible. The purpose of this article is to identify new trends in the local development and new conditions that can be apply in permanent economic crisis.
