Summary/Abstract: According to researchers dealing with the subject of organization and development of existing companies, entrepreneurship is starting to play a very significant role and is thus perceived as a crucial component within the modern economy. It is therefore treated as a manifestation of economic freedom, and thus also of the freedom of the individual, who has free choice and the possibility to manage his life in such a way as to achieve the greatest social success. The article presents the reader with the genesis and concept of entrepreneurship in economic literature, the entrepreneurial functions in business management, well-known schools researching the phenomenon of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial activities and their typology. These are theoretical considerations based on available scientific literature dealing with this interesting topic.
