Summary/Abstract: The development of supermarkets and hypermarkets in Poland gave rise to new distribution ways of consumer goods, especially goods of daily demand, which have become a strong competitor to traditional distribution including wholesale. The purpose of this article is to review the operation of the wholesale business in Poland and to provide activities that enhance their service functions for manufacturers and retailers. The analysis deals with changes in the size structure of wholesale enterprises and their organization forms. Strengthening relationships with business partners and expanding the scope of services provided to customers and creating its own brand was considered as significant trends of increasing competitiveness in the wholesale until 2020.
