Population distribution and density in the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area

Summary/Abstract: Along with the new financial perspective of the European Union in Poland, there is finally a chance for a well-thought-out use of the potential of areas related functionally, not limited by administrative boundaries,using a joint development initiative. The basic issue regarding development planning is the knowledge of resources of the area (including population), and skilful usage of their interrelationships. This can be achieved with a help of the demographic study of the area which sheds a light on the relationship between the population resource and its distribution in space. The aim of the article is to find the dependence between distribution of population and its density in a special functional arrangement – the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area.
