Summary/Abstract: Landslides in Poland are strongly related to heavy and/or prolonged rainfalls, therefore, are one of the natural disasters. They are included in the National Crisis Management Plan, because they pose a serious threat especially to property and infrastructure. Measures taken after major landslide catastrophes of 1997 and 2010 showed the need to develop a strategy to reduce landslide risk, that is to work out coherent procedures that will allow to recover and rebuild after the disaster, to prevent or mitigate a potential disaster in the future as well as to get prepared for a new catastrophic event by a forewarning. Two large projects implemented since the first years of the 21st century, namely Landslide Protection Framework (OP) and Landslide Counteracting System (SOPO), are important elements of the emerging strategy, which although not yet framed in one document, already includes two important issues - reconstruction and prevention.
