"The third gender": Guglielmo Ferrero and Konstantin Mutafov

Summary/Abstract: The text is reviewing the perceptions of the role and the mission of woman, expressed in the work of the Italian sociologist and historian Guglielmo Ferrero and the main focus is upon the phenomena of the single (not married) woman or so called by him the third gender. Under his influence the Bulgarian intellectual Konstantin Mutafov published many articles discussing social problems in the media in the interwar period. His ideas presented in his work “The role and the tasks of the Bulgarian woman” will be reviewed as well.
