Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the problem of the formation and functioning of women educated elites in Bulgaria in19th-20th century by one of the crucial social factors-family and professional environment. The emphasis is put on the place and importance of men (fathers, husbands, lovers and mentors) in education, career, and public expression of female educated elites in Bulgaria. The study of this aspect is fundamental as it affect score issues related to the transition of women from traditional to modern society, the appearance in private at a lasting presence in the public space. The paper is based on archival sources, memoirs, and periodicals. Basic research methods are historical analysis, prosopographical analysis, and analysis of social networks.
