Summary/Abstract: Family is a basic and at the same time natural space of human life; it is where an individual can fulfill the most important life needs that are necessary for their proper functioning and development. A natural family rhythm is disturbed when a disabled child is born. The level of life’s difficulties, stress, and disappointments of a father and mother increases when a daughter or son has a disability that makes them dependent on others for the rest of their lives. This is a situation to deal with in the case of children with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, the subject of my research interest here comes in the form of an attempt to grasp a way to redefine and reconstruct a role of a parent of an intellectually-disabled child. The research is intended to recreate the specificity of adopting a parent’s role with a particular consideration of their sex. Hence, I analyze the aforementioned notions from the perspective of a division into the roles of a mother and a father of a child with an intellectual disability.
