Summary/Abstract: Fashion represents a complex aesthetic and socio-cultural phenomenon with a ramified polysemantic structure that is in a continuous process of communication within its own system, interacting with various external factors of economic, political, social, cultural nature. Fashion is influenced and influences the processes of creating both aesthetical and socio-cultural forms. Being a phenomenon representative of contemporary Western civilization, it requires an inter and transdisciplinary approach. The work demonstrates the difference, but also the awareness of the similarity between the aesthetic and communicative dimensions of fashion, as delimited in speciality literature. The aesthetic and artistic approach of fashion is complemented by the communicative aspect of the phenomenon, which is especially important now when its valences are recognized both theoretically and pragmatically, thus contributing to new understandings in the contemporary fashion theory.
