Summary/Abstract: The article considers memoirs as a linguoculturological and historical source. The memoirs help to make semiotic portrait of the Pyatigorsk spa town. The town is actually the main hero of S. Povolotsky’s What my eyes saw memoirs. The text of the memoirs is a vivid illustration of interference and interaction between the Caucasian (Eastern) and European cultures.
