Summary/Abstract: Virtual enterprise can be analyzed as a system. The most important nine characteristics of any system satisfied by virtual companies have been identified: goal setting, holism, hierarchy, inputs and results, transformation, energy, entropy, equifinality, feedback. The three most common tools used to study and design the technical systems of virtual enterprises are: models, languages and methodologies. Models are used to represent the system and its limits. On the other hand, languages are used in the construction and manipulation of models. The methodologies make possible the analysis and synthesis of the systems
