Summary/Abstract: The article evokes the aspects and realities encountered in the Romanian society in the communist Romania of the 50s and 60s. Communist domination had brought many restrictions to public life. The author evokes the newspaper “România liberă (Free Romania)”, in which the “Personal column” was reintroduced - a loophole for publishing usually censored ads; in the same article, the author evokes Bucharest’s most elegant restaurants, places where the city’s elite gathered and socialized, defying the gray atmosphere of the country.
