History of The University of Arts Târgu Mureș From the Press View

Summary/Abstract: The study follows the history of The University of Arts Târgu-Mureș, from the perspective offered by the written press, o valuable documentary source, next to archives or historical studies. Among these sources, the articles identified from the general press and the specialized press are signed by journalists but also by personalities of the University, which gives an objective and a subjective informational perspective, both equally important for the reconstruction of the institution’s history. The starting point is represented by the creation of the institution in 1946, as The Hungarian Conservatory for Music and Dramatic Art Cluj-Napoca. After it became The ,,Szentgyörgyi István” Theatre Institute and was partially transferred to Târgu-Mureș in 1954, the study points the most important moments in the history of the institution, up to the period of regaining the liberty of expression after 1990, and towards the multicultural and multidisciplinary identity of the University in the present.
